Edmond Francis Woods (1905 - 1990)

In 1926, Edmond Woods studied with Maurice Braun in San Diego and continued his studies in Los Angeles at the Otis Art Institute and the Chouinard Art Institute. He settled in the San Diego area. He was a student of native American cultures, and is known for both his harbor depictions and landscapes of the desert Southwest. Reflecting his artistic interests, he was a member of numerous art associaions, including the La Jolla Art Association and the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs.

This painting was a gift from Edmond Woods to his good friend, artist John W. Hilton on the occasion of John's entry into New York's Salmagundi Club. Both Woods and Hilton were interested in the indian cultures of the southwest, and painted together on occasion. It is being currently offered from the collection of artist, Kathi Hilton.
