Paul Anton Schmitt 1893 - 1983 |
Born into a an artistic family in Philadelphia, young Paul Anton and the Schmitt family moved to San Francisco and lived on Turk Street until the earthquake in 1906. After the quake, the family moved across the Bay to Oakland and lived in Fruitvale. Paul studied art at the California School of the Fine Arts and the CCAC, and remained active in the San Francisco art community for the rest of his life. In the 1930's, he worked as a commercial artist doing oils, watercolors and murals for local publications and buildings. He had a passion for building boats and became a miniature yacht builder. He was a member of numerous art associations and exhibited locally.
