Harold Charles Landaker met his wife, Mabel Beatrice Holtz while both were students at the Chicago Art Institute. For fifteen years, the couple traveled with the Clyde Beatty Circus painting backdrops, posters, and circus wagons, and managed some of the circus attractions. In 1940, the couple moved to Southern California where Harold worked for the MGM Studio Art Department. Six years later, they moved to Pacific Grove, California on the Monterey Peninsula, and were active in the Carmel Art Association. Mabel is known for impressionist portraits and still lifes while Harold is known for whimsical renditions of wildlife and circus animals. Back to top
