Cypress Cove
Oil on canvasboard, 18 x 24
Signed indistinctly
$750
This painting is an almost surrealistic depiction of a famous Carmel cove; there exist many similar scenes by various California artists. It is an effective study of California coastal light. Unfortunately, there is a chip out of the center of the signature. Someone has handwritten "H. Warman" or something similar, scratched into the back of panel, but what remains of the signature allows for other possibilities. Its frame is unique and may well be made out of cypress wood - the trees depicted. Estimated as before 1950 from the canvasboard label and the (now removed) greyed aged varnish.
