Benjamin Chambers Brown attended the St. Louis School of Fine Arts and then the Academie Julian in Paris. Before moving to Pasadena in 1896, he specialized in still lifes and portraits in the South. Upon his arrival in California, he saw great potential in changing his focus to landscapes. Brown is best known for his paintings of the sierras and poppy filled spring meadows.
